Challenges
  • The homepage information and features are too complex, and users struggle to understand how to use them.
  • The measurement process lacks clear guidance, causing users to frequently pause or abandon the process.
  • The inconsistent visual style undermines the product's professional image and sense of reliability.
Project Goals
  • Highlight the core features to make the product easier for users to navigate and use.
  • Ensure users feel secure and trust the process throughout their measurement experience.
Most skincare apps focus on selling products rather than providing professional analysis and treatments
I selected eight skincare apps as competitors, conducting a comprehensive analysis, including a feature comparison and brand image. This process not only enhanced our team's understanding of the market and various industry approaches but also assisted our client in defining a clear business goal for the project.
Competitive analysis
Set phased goals for optimization direction
First, stabilize the product system quality, provide essential core features and adjust user interface, then leverage Skin Beauty Pal's strengths to seek breakthroughs.

In this project, I also guided a design intern to execute the design proposal. We presented two versions through different product communication perspectives and visual directions. After extensive discussions, our client combined both versions to create the final one.
Phased product optimization strategy

Skincare experts guarding you anytime

Using real images of doctors as the key visual, combined with card designs to emphazie information and highlight key features, making the entire interface cleaner and more transparent.

You friendly doctor, always by your side

Using rounded corners and a transparent style to convey a friendly feel. It also create a conversational context, making users feel like they have a personal dermatologist offering advice while using the app.

Design Highlights

We redesigned the navigation, homepage and measurement process, enhancing the information layout and highlighting key features to ensure users can quickly access essential functions. Additionally, we optimized the visual design and interaction elements to create a more cohesive and modern experience.

01

Highlight key features in the upper section to emphasize skin improvement

We redesigned navigation and main user flows, allowing users to quickly access all relevant information. Furthermore, on the homepage, we offer a floating button to enhance the core feature, enabling users to easily use the skin measurement.

02

Guide users in step-by-step skin measurement

To facilitate a comprehensive skin evaluation, we guided users through a step-by-step tutorial to analyze their skin condition. To reduce cognitive overload, each action is presented on a separate page, allowing users to focus on one task at a time.

03

Offer an overview of skin analysis results through visualizations

Use illustrations to display measurement results, reducing the discomfort of showing actual test photos. Subsequently, Users can review each section for details such as skin comparison and explore professional treatment.

04

Clear instructions and introductions to enhance professionalism and trust

Tailored skincare plans based on different skin concerns, providing users with a personalized skincare plan. It displays the tasks and progress, making it easy for users to track and manage.

What did I learn?

  • For the first time as a Design Lead, I guided junior designer in brainstorming design directions and proposals, while learning how to provide valuable and constructive feedbacks.
  • The MVP is crucial, especially since the client is a startup team. During discussions, there were still some uncertain position and function. Releasing a quick version allows for rapid updates and continuous iteration for optimization.
